Recycling Information for Local Governments

Providing recycling, composting and waste reduction education, information and services to residents and community organizations in cities, counties and townships across the state is not only valued by constituents, it’s critical to the success of the recycling industry in Michigan.  Government managed programs provide a consistent supply of recycled materials to processors across the state.  And conversely, companies that provide recycled services are of value to their communities; they make use of local recycled materials and provide jobs and tax revenue at the local level.

The Michigan Recycling Coalition wants to help local governments provide valued services, education and information to their constituents.

Recycler Certification - Get the recognition you deserve!

Certified Recyclers stand apart from their peers and demonstrate a commitment to conserve resources, reduce waste, recycle, and purchase green.

The Michigan Recycling Coalition's Recycling Certification Program allows your organization to document and promote waste reduction and recycling efforts through a recognizable and reliable vehicle.  Applicants complete a form describing their waste reduction and recycling efforts and return that with payment to the MRC office.  Upon verification by the MRC, participants will be recognized as a Certified Recycler through window clings, press releases, certificates and other promotional tools.

The program enrolls locations with pre-paid, pre-addressed and universal waste compliant battery and cell phone collection boxes.  Once a box is full, its sealed up and handed off to UPS.  Replenishment boxes are shipped automatically, and the program can provide you with a certificate of recycling and data on the weights and battery chemistries of all used rechargeable batteries recycled by an institution.  For more details about the program and to sign up, visit www.call2recycle.org.
